Audience Profile

Published by aurianehofe under Uncategorized

My target audience would eat cereal and fruit for breakfast. Would either walk or ride a bike as its free. Most likely live with a mate. Would enjoy drinking a gin and tonic and watch Family Guy. Enjoys listening to anything and everything, but more of the rockier type of music. Enjoys a nice thai green curry. Thinks watching sports is a waste of time. Would like to go to Thailand and the cheaper it costs the better. Enjoys going out clubbing for the atmosphere.

Sixth Form Magazine Cover/Contents/Evaluation

Published by aurianehofe under Uncategorized

Magazine Evaluation

The purpose of my magazine is to keep sixth formers at our school informed about what’s going on and how then they can have say in the way sixth form is run. There are also tips about relevant topics such as exam tips.

My magazine follows the convention of a magazine such as my title being big and bold and at the top of the page so people can read it from quite far away even if it’s on a magazine stack. There’s a medium close up picture of a sixth former as most magazines have a medium close up on their front cover. On the top right corner there’s the Howard logo so it makes it clear that it’s the Howard’s official magazine.

The contents page uses the same colour scheme and background as the front cover so you can tell that the contents page and the front cover are from the same magazine.

On the right hand side I’ve included a medium close up of a sixth former as that follows the convention of a magazine. I cut out all around my image so there was no background with it so it would look a lot better on my front cover. My mode of address is looking straight at the reader to engage the reader into reading the magazine. He’s wearing causal clothes as he is a sixth former which gets to wear his own clothes, He’s also holding onto his sun glasses and pointing at the reader as if to say ‘hey, look at me’. My image is in colour and I made it brighter so you could see him a lot better and as if there was a lot of sun shining on him. His body language is relaxed and he’s got a big smile to show that he’s having a good time and enjoying himself. On my contents page I only have a small cartoon image in the bottom right corner with a speech bubble saying ‘the exam is next week!’, I thought this was an appropriate image to use as on my contents page I have 2 pages about exams. It will appeal to my target audience as the contents it includes is all related to sixth formers.

For my title I used a bold font so it would make it stand out and it’s quite a casual font so it’ll appeal to my target audience. The ‘inside’ and the ‘free’ text are bold to make the reader drawn to them. My text is informal, an example of this is ‘revision tips for those dreaded ones!’ as it would of have been formal I would of have written ‘revision tips for your up and coming exams’. I did this as it’s more suited to my target audience and makes it less serious. I’ve used the buzz word ‘inside’ so the audience know what to expect inside the magazine. I’ve included little headings with questions above each of my different topics on the front cover so it engages the reader in my magazine. I haven’t included any anchorage text as I didn’t think my image needed any text.

The general colour scheme for my magazine is black with different coloured circles to make it bold and stand out. Also it’s quite fun and casual so it suits my target audience but it also looks quite smart as it’s a school magazine. I used a range of colours as all the colours stand out with the black background. I made it as colourful as I could so it would stand out and look good. I don’t think you can apply semiotic analysis to my chosen colours as I chose them at random and tried to use as many different coloured texts as I could but the word ‘win’ I wrote in capital letters and in red so it would make the reader drawn to it.

I made 3D coloured bubbles on my background so it would make it look more interesting and fun. It will appeal to my target audience as they look smart and add colour so it makes the front cover and contents look a lot more interesting, On the top right hand side corner I included the school’s logo so you would recognise it straightaway. On my contents page I included a picture of a boy looking nervous about his exams next week which is appropriate to my target audience as they have up and coming exams soon.
